To Be Named APA - (hey no one's perfect)

After brewing up the Cream Ale, I suddenly have the urge to brew up a Pale Ale, haven't had a good one in awhile so why not.

Poll choices for the next name, hoping on 1 or 3, not fond of 2, 4 I can live with.

Taper 'n Ale
Harrison Ale
Drunkin Runner
RT21 Ale

Think the most votes I had for a poll was 20. Once I get a name, I'll create a label, will be ordering the ingredients tomorrow morning.

6 lbs Gold malt syrup
1 lb Briess Golden Light DME
0.5 lbs Briess Caramel 60
0.75 oz Chinook (60 min)
1 oz German Perle (20 min)
2 oz Cascade (0 min)
Safale US-05 Ale Yeast
Style - American Pale Ale
Alc %  5.3
Calories per 12oz: 153

Looks like Drunkin Runner won the poll..

Very pleased with this..

Not too hoppy for a Pale Ale, just enough actually..Had planned to dry hop with Cascade but never got around to it...turns out it doesn't need it..Nice aroma, good mouthfeel and a decent head..

Twentysix 2 and Thirteen 1 Cream Ale

Wow, haven't updated this blog in awhile..Actually haven't brewed in awhile I guess, since I started running at least. I'm running the New Jersey Marathon with 2  incredible ladies..Aparna is running the full marathon, and honestly, there aren't enough words in the English language to accurately and fairly describe this girl. Ilene is other part of our running trio, she's  running the Long Branch half, she's fantastic..She runs MUCH faster than I can ever dream of, and Aparna is right behind her..They both sweet  enough to slow down for me :)

I decided to brew a Cream Ale just for this occasion, to celebrate us running the race. It's a light drinking beer that everyone likes. Light enough, anyone can enjoy it and not get overly full.

Recipe:

0.75 lbs Gambrinus Honey Malt
0.25 lbs Belgian Biscuit
6 lbs Pilsen malt syrup
1 oz Cluster (60 min)
Safale US-05 Ale Yeas
Alc: 4.8
Calories per 12 oz :151

I made 2 labels for this beer. The first one is twentysix 2 , this label is for the full marathon. I plan on giving Aparna a 6 pack to bring home to her husband, and she can have some of his..Aparna, this is a very light beer, it was selected with you in mind :) .. Please enjoy it, you earned it!

The 2nd label is for Ilene, called thirteen 1, for the half marathon, I'll give Ilene a 6 pack to bring home to enjoy and celebrate her first half marathon..

Twentysix 2 label

Thirteen 1 label

Brew day

For a quick beer this came out great and it's cheap to make. Very light bitterness, good mouthfeel and nice head..Very happy with the results and the best part was everyone liked it..

Hopz In the Hood..A Jersey City IPA

This  is an American IPA that will have  a relatively modest gravity and an immodest hop character derived entirely from a single hop variety. Chinook hops have long been used by US brewers for bittering additions, but their intense aroma and flavor have caught on only recently.

My  high school reunion is coming up next month and I won't be able to attend since I'm working on a project that night, so I decided to name this IPA after the city I grew up in, well partially at least lol..

 .75 lbs Belgian Caramel Pils
 .25 lbs Briess Caramel 120
  6 lbs Pilsen malt syrup
   1lb Pilsen dry malt extract
   1 oz Chinook (60 min)
   0.5 oz Chinook (10 min)
   0.5 oz Chinook (1 min)
   1 oz Chinook (dry hop)
  Safale US-05 Ale Yeast

ESB

3.15 lbs Gold malt syrup (60 min)
3.15 lbs Gold malt syrup late addition (15 min)
1 lbs Simpsons Medium Crystal
2 oz Willamette (60 min)
1 oz Kent Goldings (15 min)
1 oz Kent Goldings (1 min)
WYEAST 1968 LONDON ESB YEAST.

ESBs are essentially more aggressive and more balanced Bitters, both in alcohol and hop character, but nothing overpowering. Color range will be similar, though leaning towards the darker end of the scale; dark golds to copper. Low carbonation. Malts tend to be more pronounced, often toasty and fruity, with maybe some notes diacetyl. And despite "bitter" being in its name, ESBs are not really all that bitter. They key to an ESB is balance.

Think of this as a British Bitter squared - more malt and more hops equals higher gravity, bigger body, more bitterness, and more intense flavors and aromas. A more complex beer than an “ordinary” low-gravity bitter, an ESB is a showcase for high-quality hops and brewing skill, meant to be enjoyed with consideration rather than merely quaffed.

In other words, this is gonna be good lol..

Rapture Ale

Well, Reverend Camping said the Rapture was coming on May 21st, basically meaning the end of the world, figured I'd brew an English Ale, aptly named Rapture Ale. Now, since I didn't plan on being around to drink it (figuring the world would have ended already), but the end of the world never came. Supposedly it's been postponed until October 21st.

This is a kit from Northen Brewer, called the Innkeeper, but I had to rename it, The Innkeeper is not a name for a beer.

Spicy, herbal, and English biscuits. Flashes of clean citrus and chewy minerals blend into a complex finish that is refreshingly bitter and remarkably dry.

0.25 lbs Simpsons Extra Dark Crystal
0.25 lbs Belgian Biscuit Malt
3.15 lbs Pilsen Malt Syrup
1 lb Pilsen DME
1 lb corn sugar
1 oz Fuggle (60 min)
1 oz Kent Goldings (45 min)
1 oz Styrian Goldings (5 min)
WYEAST 1945 NB NEOBRITANNIA

Cracked one of these open tonight, actually I plan on having a few more too lol..Exactly as the description stated....biscuits and citrus, slight bready aroma given off by the hops. Its lighter than its appearance and surprisingly bright although the pics below look dark but that's only the lighting,  I really like this one. I used the Wyeast 1945 Neobrittania, 2 weeks primary and 2 weeks conditioning in bottles and it's really coming around. Although I'm brewing an ESB and a Cream Ale next, I'm gonna be brewing this again as well, seems to be the perfect summer beer.

White Ale (Witibier)

A classic while ale brewed with wheat, barley, orange peel and coriander. It's lightly hopped and fermented with Safebrew WB-06 Wheat Ale Yeast, resulting in a fruity, spicy yet refreshing beer.

I steeped the grains in 1 gallone of water for 45 minutes, trying to keep the temp between 148-155 was a challenge but I did it. This is going to be a very good brew, thought about using some orange zest also but I'll see how this comes out first.

3.3 lbs Breiss Bavarian Wheat LME
2 lbs Bavarian Wheat DME
1 lb Crushed 2 Row Pale Malt
8 oz Flaked Wheat
8 oz Oats
1 oz Bitter Orange Peel @ 20 min
1 oz Coriander seed @ 20 min
1 oz Willamette @ 60 min
1 oz Sterling @ 15 min
ABV %  - 4.75

The Yeastie Boyz hard at work

Came out great, nice and smooth like a White Ale should be, a tad of spice, good head.

Un-named IPA now called - Outsourced to India Pale Ale

Since this batch will be our 100 gallone brewed, we wanted to brew our first IPA. This is an all Amarillo hop IPA, created by thejadeddog on Homebrewtalk, considering there's over 22 pages of replies with brewers who brewed this, I can't wait to taste this. Picked up the rest of the ingredients from the Gaslight, keep forgetting about that place, have to get ingredients from Dan more often. The only change I will make is I'll add an oz of Amarillo hops vs the half oz that was in the original recipe.

I planned on brewing this up last weekend, but I had the flu ( yeah should have gotten that flu shot) , so I had to wait til tonight to do it, and I'm coughing up a lung with bronchitis, never had that before but after getting over the flu I came down with it.  Had planned on going to the AOH Christmas Dinner but felt like crap all day but had to brew this up tonight (remind me never to brew at midnight again) or risk my grains going bad.

The poll on the left side of the site will determine the name.
